A Local Area Network (LAN) account will enable you to share software and files with other users who also have LAN accounts. Most of the administrative/ departmental offices at George Mason are part of the network of Novell LANs at the university. Standard LAN Account All faculty and staff members hired through human resources, as well as Contract employees with valid id's, are eligible for standard LAN accounts. This includes university affiliates, adjunct faculty, and visiting scholars. Responsibility for activity on a standard LAN account rests with the individual account holder. Generic LAN Accounts for Departments and Organizations Generic LAN accounts are LAN accounts in which the the account name is not tied to an individual's username but to an official campus organization, or department. A staff or faculty member assumes all responsibility for activity on that account, including password resets. A generic LAN account can only be requested by the staff or faculty member who has agreed to sponsor that account.
